Abandoned Dairy Barn

This old abandoned Dairy Barn is located west of Thorp Washington. Although you can see the main road into Thorp right across the river from the farm, to get there requires a trip along the John Wayne Trail west about 5 miles or a long car ride back into the canyon. We got there by bicycle on a hot summer day.  Talking with relatives from the area, it was said that Mr. and Mrs. Paulsen built the place and lived there close to 50 years.   They used to bring milk and eggs into Thorp to sell, making the long drive over the dirt road weekly.  In the winter they would often get snowed in and have to wait until spring before they could come to town again.  The old Milwaukee Railroad came by on a regular basis when the train line was running. When Mr. Paulsen died, his wife, with help from the hands, managed the farm for many years. When she left, the homestead was never lived in again and seeing it first hand with the house and outbuildings in bad repair, it was nice to get a picture of this barn.
